Issues of Local Regional Identity vs. Global City

Code AR3919
Credits 3
Description Most cities throughout the world are facing many challenges of complex global pressure for development, while they are trying to represent their own historic identity. Constructing local regional identity through the approach of historical and cultural significance is therefore very important. Urban design intervention might be addressed. This course has been prepared : (1) to introduce students to various problems and opportunities to face the challenges of global pressures, (2) to enable students to develop a critical understanding of important current issues in local urban context (physical, cultural, social, political, economical, etc), (3) to encourage students to identify and to analyse a range of approaches and methods to constructing local identity which are likely to be relevant in local urban context.
General Instructional Objective After completing this course, students are capable to do research on urban identity using computer programs as research tools.
